For all kind of broadcast programs, there will be 3 stages that will be involved in their film creation process.
- Pre-production which includes casting, planning and gaining various financial support.
- Production will involve shooting the movie and recording actual radio broadcast.
- Post-production where broadcast really comes alive.
One of the most important phases in creating movie is post-production that will flow cohesively with the picture, sound, and other special effects.
Though picture editing or visual effects will only be used in photography, film, TV and all kinds of media broadcast programs that use sound effects, sound mixing, music composition and color correction for creating a cohesive project.
Following are the 6 stages of film post production process.
1.Picture editing
During the initial stages, both editor and director will decide which shots must be included in the final version of the movie. Then the editor will arrange each scene in certain specific way for conveying the film’s message.
Sometimes during post-production stage even different story may be created that was originally conceived.
The whole 20 hours footage can be condensed to less than 2 hours.
2. Sound effects editing
After film shots are spliced together in proper order, sound editor will check the footage to ensure that the audio is clear. Besides clear dialogue editor will also check for background noises.
If dialogue is not clear, actors can be called to re-record their lines.
If the background noise is not clear, then the sound editor will take help of certain sources to record the required noise. The audio will then be inserted into the scene.
3. Musical score
During this 3rd phase of the post-production, you will be creating an original musical score and also incorporating it into your film.
Both director and composer will decide which style and tone of music will best reflect your film and then chooses where each song can fit best in movie.
During this stage, even other music can be chosen and incorporated too.
4. Visual effects
Visual effects can be dramatic or subtle. With Type-1 visual effects, experts can edit 2 shots together, remove few items from scene digitally or alter street sign for fitting the purposes of your film.
Such kinds of visual effects are usually not noticeable. Type-2 visual effects can be more exciting and may include inserting certain digital explosions and also fantasy creations.
5. Sound mixing
In post-production sound mixers and audio directors have quite different jobs.
The audio editor will ensure that sounds are very clearly heard and the sound mixer will work to harmonize each and every element of the audio like dialogue, background noise and music.
The basic purpose of this post-production stage is to ensure the music may not overpower any other audio elements.
6. Color correction
In this final phase of the post-production will be correction of the color of every scene. Few films use certain color effects to provide the movie a very special feel.
Also, film utilizes certain color corrector for enhancing the images in every shot. This corrector will blend multiple color tones for reducing contrast and then make each shot may look as better as possible.
